This smaller Tennessee town has a historic town square complete with magnificent older buildings, particularly the Jackson County Clerk & Master building covered in yellow brick with an old-fashioned clocktower visible from most downtown locations. Gainesboro is home to less than 1,000 citizens who enjoy the small-town lifestyle, nearby mountains, and winding rivers.
 
Jackson County is rich in history and is one of the few places in the country where the entire downtown district is listed on the National Registry of Historical Places. Its breathtaking hills have always played a crucial role in many notable Americans, from Mark Twain to Cordell Hull.

The Wildwood Resort & Marina has a beautiful view of the sunset over the Cumberland River and mountains. The Live Music and Wildwood festival is held at this location. The Dairy Shack is located right on the river and is a nice place to stop for ice cream during the summer. Downriver, people can enjoy Casa Grande for spicy Mexican dishes.
 
Dorothys Cakes & More is where locals can go to pick up handmade, southern-style sweets. Lastly, The Liquor Cabinet is an excellent place to pick up high-quality wine, spirits, and drinks. 
 

Things to Do

Salt Lick Creek is part of the Cumberland River and offers many recreational attractions, such as the Salt Lick Creek Campground. The Salt Lick Creek Campground is also home to Cordell Hull Lake Horseriding Trails, a place made for local equestrians. The Roaring River Park has numerous walking trails, places to boat, and wonderful views.

During the holidays, the Historic Gainesboro Christmas Parade marches through town and brings residents some holiday magic. Granville Mercantile & Weddings is a beautiful wedding venue right near the banks of the river.
